Vice Provost Judy Smith made an appearance during the Undergraduate Student Association Council meeting on Tuesday. Smith led a special presentation about UCLA’s current plans for reaccreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
“We can take the recommendations to improve what we are doing,” said Smith. “We will be able to push things we always wanted to push.”
Smith discussed the higher importance of capstone experiences in the WASC plans. In capstone experiences, undergraduate students would have opportunities to do research and work on department projects, community service and leadership projects.
Later in the meeting, concerns about office space arose.
Office Space Allocation Committee Chair Neilda Pacquing presented three appointees for the OSAC. Several councilmembers’ questions addressed to the appointees showed similar interest in the office space guidelines, especially regarding “safe space."
The issue of “safe space" reflects the wishes of certain groups, such as Queer Alliance, to have private office space. The council is still in discussion over the office space application process.
