Furthering the controversy surrounding Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, the Undergraduate Students Association Council passed a resolution on Tuesday in support of the Muslim Student Association.
The group has been calling the event hateful and offensive, despite the Bruin Republicans’ insistence that their event is only condemning a small portion of Muslims they call fascist or fundamentalist.
Representatives from both the Muslim Student Association and Bruin Republicans were present at the meeting for the lengthy discussion about the resolution at the council table as various amendments to the original resolution were considered.
The Muslim Student Association members turned out in great numbers, while Bruin Republican Chairman David Lazar said he had not known about the resolution until after the meeting had started.
Ultimately council passed the resolution in an 8-1-1 vote, with Facilities Commissioner Sherlyn Mossahebfar’s abstention and Financial Supports Commissioner Clinton Jang’s nay vote.
