BY David Baron
Hello Bruins!
I am Dr. David Baron, the new executive director of the Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center.
I will be meeting you here regularly to answer your questions about illness and wellness, injury and recovery, prevention, prescriptions, urban legends and whatever else you may be wondering about when it comes to your health.
I started practicing as a family physician in 1991.
My passion has always been to educate people about when everything’s working properly in their bodies or when it’s not, and how to avoid problems whenever possible.
We live in an age where we are all constantly inundated with information about our health: what to do, what not to do, what to eat and not eat. We are given information about what to take, buy, try, wear, use or avoid in order to look, feel and perform our best.
It’s not easy to sort through the validity and reliability of the sources of all that information, especially when it’s coming from the Internet, celebrity endorsement or a friend. These are all of the topics I will help you with each week in this column. I will also try to tell you about certain health-related services available to you at the Ashe Center or elsewhere on campus.
You have a serious and important job to do here during your time as a student at UCLA ““ to succeed, thrive and grow both as an individual and a member of our campus community while trying to have as much fun as possible in the process.
To maximize your ability to complete these challenging tasks, I am committed to do my part to explain, advise and assist you by answering questions you submit to the Daily Bruin on a broad range of relevant, health-related topics that affect the student population.
So, let’s get started. If you have questions about your health, you need only Ashe.
