We do not endorse Jan Tancinco for Campus Events Commissioner.

Although Tancinco has three years of experience with the commission, she had vague ideas on improving the office and could not provide details about her platforms. For example, she wants to create a process for student groups to collaborate with the commission, but she could not elaborate beyond placing a link on the CEC website.

In addition, Tancinco failed to demonstrate an understanding of program budgeting. She suggested that the commission spend less on marketing, but admitted later that marketing costs comprised only a small portion of the budget. She also mentioned pooling and splitting funds with different USAC offices for shared programming, but did not know which events or which offices would be involved. While Tancinco’s emphasis on limiting USAC spending is admirable, her lack of knowledge about finances will inhibit her effectiveness.

Tancinco showed little confidence in her ability to be an effective commissioner and in her knowledge of student issues. We strongly recommend Tancinco conduct further research and develop her platforms with a concrete plan. We hope that she will not be hindered by lack of preparedness.
