USAC Recap – March 20

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda

“¢bull; This week’s contingency allocations were unanimously approved.
“¢bull; The council unanimously approved a resolution in support of UCLA CALPIRG’s campaign to ban single-use plastic grocery bags.
“¢bull; The council approved the appointments of six students to the Election Board. Election Board chair, Eena Singh, a third-year anthropology student, selected the students for this year’s board, filling the positions of vice chair, publicity chair, investigations chair and external affairs chair. She also appointed two committee members.

“¢bull; President Emily Resnick said a town hall meeting about campus climate is scheduled for the second week of spring quarter in Moore 100. Resnick said council members are working on crafting the exact language of the proposed referendum that would increase student fees by $3 per quarter and will present the final referendum to council for approval first week of spring quarter.
“¢bull; Joelle Gamble, external vice president, said the Speaker of the Assembly, John Perez, will be coming to UCLA on April 20 talk to students about the Middle Class Scholarship.
“¢bull; Raquel Saxe, academic affairs commissioner, said the UCLA Faculty Executive Committee endorsed the Community and Conflict in the Modern World general education requirement and the syllabus preview program. Saxe said her office will be meeting with Frank Wada, the UCLA registrar, and Judith Smith, dean and vice provost for undergraduate education, to work out the technological details of the syllabus preview program.
