For focusing office programs on rousing student interest on the most pressing issues, Daniel Soto has earned the board’s endorsement for Campus Events commissioner.

An unopposed independent candidate, Soto presented a plan to continue CEC’s programming efforts to bring speakers to campus, but said he wants to focus the scope of the events on some more impactful topics. For example, the office could co-program with the Burkle Center, a campus institute focused on international relations. Though they discuss topics a broad range of students may find valuable, Burkle events are usually less well-known to the larger student body.

Soto’s experience as the current CEC speakers director gives him the experience he needs to refocus the office’s programs in that area.

In addition, Soto plans to hold office hours to assist students in programming their own events. Council office hours can easily be useless, but Soto has a specific goal that will enable him to use his office resources and expertise to help students.
