USAC Recap – Feb. 22

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Agenda
“¢bull; Finance Committee Chair Isaac Rose’s contingency allocations were passed with an unanimous vote of 12-0-0.
“¢bull; The council approved a resolution against proposed cuts to higher education with a vote of 12-0-0. The resolution calls for the university and UCLA students to take a stand against the statewide education cuts.
“¢bull; The council approved a resolution to institutionalize the On-Campus Housing Council’s participation in the endorsement process with a vote of 12-0-0.
“¢bull; The council voted to table discussion of particular election code changes until Tuesday, when the council will discuss the Election Board’s proposal to change the general representative election process from the single transferable vote system to a plurality system.

Officer Reports
“¢bull; External Vice President Cristopher Santos announced that his office will host “The California DREAM Act Decoded: Facts and Stories of California Dreamers” this Thursday.
“¢bull; General Representative Gatsby Miller announced his office’s plans to host the first annual “Ally Week” during third week of spring quarter. The week is designed to promote the power of allies for marginalized groups.

Special Presentations
“¢bull; A representative from the Bruin Lobby Corps announced that it is launching a new certification program in the hope of encouraging students to become certified student lobbyists.
