The Mystery Bookstore, located on Broxton Avenue, will shut its doors for the last time on Jan. 31.
A presence in Westwood for more than 13 years, the store is known for hosting regular book signings and readings by visiting authors.
The decision to close was made last week, said manager Bobby McCue.
With the development of e-books and websites such as Amazon.com that offer many discounts and free delivery, overall sales have been declining, McCue said.
“There just isn’t a huge light at the end of the tunnel for (small bookstores),” he said.
The store will extend its hours for the remainder of the month, and will be open every day of the week, according to a statement on the store’s website.
With the closing of Borders bookstore earlier this month, the Mystery Bookstore was the last remaining bookstore in Westwood Village.
