After three consecutive nights of bombing raids over
Afghanistan, the United States is looking to move into the next
phase of military operations by expanding its forces into the
Mideast and Central Asia, according to defense officials.

America has notified the United Nations in a legal document that
it will, if necessary, expand military operations throughout the
world.

With President George W. Bush formally notifying Congress of his
decision to deploy United States forces for combat operations in
Afghanistan, there is little question that we are headed toward a
large-scale ground attack inside Afghanistan.

The only question that remains is: How long and how far will the
United States take this war?

We must be careful not let our country’s leaders ride the
patriotic tide into the Middle East, with free reign to wage war on
whatever country they deem a threat to America’s
security.

What’s to stop Bush from bombing any country in the name
of fighting terrorism? The only force more powerful than the United
States military is America’s public opinion.

With no governing body to check and balance the United
States’ military operations, it is up to America’s
collective opinion to instill sense in our leaders and to keep
their trigger-happy fingers from causing more senseless
destruction.
