FUBAR bus offers cheap, convenient ride to L.A. clubs

Those who enjoy
clubbing in Hollywood and along the Sunset Strip now have a new
option for transportation ““ the FUBAR bus.

The bus service’s name reflects its intended clientele.
According to its Web site, the bus service provides
“transportation for the f*cked up beyond all
recognition,” and will transport people to and from various
L.A. nightclubs, including LAX, Tiger Heat and The Ruby.

The service started operating on Oct. 12 and runs Thursday
through Saturday nights. The site states that the bus
“provides cheap, easy and safe means for getting to popular
places in L.A. during classic party nights.”

There is little information on the Web site about who runs the
service, who the drivers are, and what sort of buses are used.
Though there is a phone number and e-mail address, they are only
for the purpose of making reservations, and calls go straight to an
answering machine with no option of speaking with a representative
of the company.

Some students expressed interest in the bus, noting its flexible
schedule.

“Since most of us don’t have cars, the bus gives us
a direct and easy way to get to Hollywood,” said Missy
Guerrero, a first-year undeclared student.

She added that the pickup location, which is at the intersection
of Gayley and Landfair avenues, is helpful because it is close to
the residential halls on the Hill.

But other students were hesitant about riding a bus about which
they knew so little. Jessica Han, a first-year undeclared student,
said she would be uncomfortable using a bus service she is
unfamiliar with.

Buses leave UCLA hourly between 9:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Passengers can be picked up from designated spots on the hour
between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Club destinations range from general admission hotspots to other
more exclusive venues that require reservations. The Web site
features a different group of clubs the bus will run to each
week.

The service has been advertised to UCLA students through a
Facebook group, which has more than 1,000 members.

Mariam Mohajer-Rahbari, a third-year psychology student, said at
a price of $5 each way, the bus service seems like a cheap and safe
alternative to driving.

“It would be a great way to have fun with friends …
without worrying about the high price of a taxi or the risk of
driving on Sunset at night,” Mohajer-Rahbari said.
