[Online exclusive]: Dean of UCLA College to resign from post

In a statement dated Sept. 26, 2007, Chancellor Gene Block announced that Patricia O’Brien will be resigning from her position as executive dean of the UCLA College.

Her resignation, which comes after her almost four-year tenure as dean, will take effect on Jan. 1, 2008.

“Pat will be missed, and her contributions will benefit the College for years to come. Meanwhile, we will have the benefit of Pat’s guidance and counsel through the end of the year,” Block said in the statement.

Block commended O’Brien on work she has done for the university, such as fundraising and faculty recruitment.

“She saw the College through some major fiscal challenges, placing it on a new trajectory toward fiscal health, while strengthening its public mission,” Block said in the statement.

Block said there are no set plans for her replacement yet.

“At a later time, I will communicate leadership plans for the College. Right now, it’s important to thank Pat for her outstanding contributions and service to UCLA,” he said.
