From the editor

At various times last school year, I remember seeing copies of
dB Magazine tiling the ground around newsstands across campus like
a very ugly wallpaper. Not that the magazine is ugly, but it
wasn’t designed to be some sort of protective ground
covering.

Once I even saw someone literally step on my face while walking
up Bruin Walk.

The problem lessened as the year progressed, but it seems like
everyone’s still a little confused as to whom, exactly, dB
Magazine is for. When the arts & entertainment section of the
Daily Bruin changed form to a weekly magazine during spring quarter
2003, a major question we considered was how readers would respond
to the new form.

Now, more than a year after the change, it’s still a
question we’re dealing with. So, in an attempt to clear
things up, here’s who dB Magazine is for:

– It’s for people who have no idea what they’re
doing over the weekend.

– It’s for people who walk around campus with their shiny
white iPod earphones firmly in place.

– But it’s also for people who still love their discmen,
because after all, it’s really all about the music.

– Via our Web site, it’s for people who are studying
abroad but want to know what all their friends are doing.

– It’s for people who know what UCLA Live is, or, perhaps
more importantly, for those who don’t.

– It’s for anyone bored with Westwood restaurants and
movie theaters packed next to more restaurants and movie
theaters.

– It’s definitely for anyone from the Bay Area who thinks
L.A. sucks.

– It’s for people who know more about movies than who won
the showdown between Alien and Predator, because whoever won, we
lost.

– It’s for people who know the difference between Armand
Hammer and Arm & Hammer, or perhaps again more importantly, for
those who don’t.

– It’s for people who saw the billboard on Sunset
Boulevard for “The Brown Bunny.”

– It’s for people who want to know where theater exists in
Los Angeles. (And here’s a hint: You probably don’t
have to drive to get there.)

– It’s for anyone who knows the meaning and origins of the
term “wardrobe malfunction.”

– It’s for people who have finally gotten over the New
Kids on the Block. Actually, wait, we’re not there yet
either. We heart Joey.

– It’s for people who get excited right before they go
out.

– But most importantly, above all else, it’s for you,
because you’re already reading it.
