Bradley/Fisher Advance to Semis
Doubles team Megan Bradley and Lauren Fisher have advanced to
the NCAA doubles tournament’s semifinals. Bradley/Fisher
dispatched Duke’s Hillary Adams and Kelly McCain in three
sets 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-2.
Although Bradley/Fisher are unseeded in the draw, they are
currently ranked at No. 5 in the nation. They will now face
Stanford’s formidable duo of Lauren Barnikow and Erin
Burdette, which is ranked No. 14.
Fisher believes that she and Bradley have what it takes to bring
the Bruins’ sole NCAA trophy, but she is wary of her
competion believing the same.
“Every team goes in with that attitude that “˜We
could win it all,'” she said. “We’ve
thought that all year, we’ve just have to prove it to
ourselves.”
These two doubles teams have met each other twice during the
regular season and have split the season series.
Coach Marinova
Although senior Petya Marinova is done as a college tennis
player she will likely return as an undergraduate assistant
coach.
Marinova has been interested in coaching for some time and is
looking forward to her new role with the team though she will miss
the competition..
“I wish it wasn’t over,” she said. “I
wish I had at least another year because I love competing, and I
just love being in the middle of the battle.
“Now that it’s over, I don’t think I am going
to get that same rush again. But I think (coaching) is the closest
I am going to get to that feeling.”
All-Americans
Since Bradley/Fisher have since earned All-American status in
doubles as of Tuesday. Walker and Bradley have earned All-American
status as singles players.
