Study finds problems in prescriptions for senior
citizens
Older patients suffering from chronic, serious diseases are not
prescribed adequate medication half of the time, according to a
study conducted by UCLA and the RAND Corporation.
The study involved 372 Medicare patients who were able to
receive prescription drugs for $10 or less.
But despite the lowered costs, the older patients had not
received quality prescriptions or education.
Ninety percent of seniors in the United States take at least one
prescription drug.
System developed to tag animals exposed to mad
cow
The Department of Agriculture revealed a new system to identify
animals exposed to bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow
disease.
When the network is implemented, a potentially infected animal
will be tagged within 48 hours.
The USDA is in the process of identifying a data repository that
would be able to manage the tagging network at a national level,
including hundreds of thousands of animals.
