The Pac-10 track and field championships begin this weekend in
Pullman, Wash. with the decathlon and heptathlon competitions.
While the UCLA women will not be sending athletes for the
heptathlon, both Octavious Gillespie and Andrew Phillips will be
competing in the decathlon for the men. Gillespie, who returned
from an elbow injury in time to win the javelin competition last
week against USC, will be competing in the decathlon for the first
time since the Oxy Decathlon, March 8-9. A junior, Phillips had the
Bruins top mark in the decathlon this season with a score of 6763,
April 18-19. The men’s and women’s track and field
championships will conclude next weekend in Pullman. Both squads
will also compete on Saturday at the Occidental and Modesto
Invitationals in preparation for next weekend’s event.
