WOMEN’S GOLF: Bruins Charlotte
Mayorkas and Krystal Shearer did well
enough in local qualifying to advance to the sectional qualifying
of the U.S. Women’s Open. Both players started on the
UCLA’s 2004 NCAA Championship team, and will join senior
Bridget Dwyer and former Bruin Vivan
Phosomran in sectional qualifying.
BASEBALL: UCLA’s Casey
Janssen received his second career Pac-10 Pitcher of the
Week on Tuesday. His previous honor was on May 12 of last year.
This year’s award comes on the heels of Janssen’s first
career complete game, which came in a pivotal matchup the Bruins
won over Washington, 4-3, last Friday. The senior allowed only six
hits and one walk, while striking out eight, giving up the lone run
in the first inning. This is the second such award in a row for
UCLA. Last week, Wes Whisler picked up the honors
for his shutout of Washington State. Compiled by Andrew Finley and
Ben Peters, Bruin sports senior staff.
