From staff and wire reports.
The UCLA football team got its second win of the season Saturday
night, beating San Diego State 20-10.
The game was a defense struggle, as neither team was
consistently able to move the ball. The score was tied, 3-3 at
halftime.
In the third quarter, UCLA got its first touchdown at home this
season on a 41-yard pass from Drew Olson to Junior Taylor.
A Justin Medlock 25-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter
made the score 13-3, and on the next drive, C.J. Niusulu
intercepted a pass from Aztec quarterback Matt Dlugolecki, which
led to an Olson 11-yard pass to Ryan Smith for UCLA’s other
touchdown.
San Diego State’s Michael Franklin scored on a 7-yard run
with 6:57 left in the game to round out the scoring.
On the ground, UCLA was only able to muster 54 rushing yards,
but Olson shined, completing 19-of-27 passes for 252 yards.
Spencer Havner also had an interception for the Bruins, and the
UCLA special teams didn’t allow any punt returns for
touchdowns as occurred this past week.
San Diego State came into the game with the second best defense
in the NCAA and UCLA came in with the 116th best offense (out of
117 teams).
The Bruins improve to 2-2 and play their first Pac-10 game of
the season next week at home against Washington.
The Aztecs fall to 3-2.
