The No. 8 UCLA women’s soccer team (3-1-1) picked up its second win, 3-0, in the Illini Challenge Cup hosted by the University of Illinois against No. 6 Florida (3-2-0) Sunday.
The Bruins made all three of their goals in the second half.
In the 51st minute, sophomore forward Sydney Leroux, who received a pass through the middle from senior forward Kristina Larsen, dribbled the ball past Gator goalkeeper Katie Fraine and buried the shot into an open net.
Larson scored the second goal of the game off an assist from freshman midfielder Ahsha Smith when she followed a Gator deflection and sent the ball into the lower-left post in the 75th minute.
In the closing minutes of the match, redshirt senior forward Kara Lang launched a 28-yard free kick that hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced in and out of the net before Smith struck it back in. The referees credited Lang with the goal.
The Bruins return to Westwood next Sunday to play their home opener against Gonzaga at Drake Stadium.
