Science section makes debut

The scientific community at UCLA is a large part of the
university.

The work done by these researchers, ranging from world-renowned
professors to graduate students and even undergrads, is often some
of the most innovative and groundbreaking research being done in
the world.

From health sciences to technology research, UCLA and its
partners cover a broad range of scientific fields ““ all
centered on the Court of Sciences and South Campus.

The Science & Health section of the Daily Bruin will strive
to bring its readers coverage of these scientific and research
developments, emphasizing how this research is relevant for the
reader.

The section will cover research interests in the different
academic departments as well as the combined projects at
UCLA’s research institutes working with partners in the
private industry.

The section will also cover health issues and the new medicines
and procedures used to treat diseases.

Often times, students, staff and faculty aren’t aware of
the cutting-edge work being done at the university because the
research and studies are too technical to fully understand.

Part of our job as writers and editors is to translate the
information for readers in an interesting and understandable manner
through pictures and informative graphics.

The Science & Health section is making its debut online and
will continue to publish weekly, with in-depth stories, columns and
features related to science, health and technology at UCLA.

Chiao is the 2002-2003 Science&Health editor.
