UCLA recently negotiated a new agreement with Network
Associates, Inc., to continue the availability of McAfee antivirus
software free of charge to UCLA departments, faculty and
students.
The agreement allows campus departments access to a large
selection of McAfee products for UCLA-owned systems. For personal
computers owned by UCLA students, faculty and staff ““ whether
on or off-campus ““ the VirusScan (for Windows, Unix and DOS)
and Virex (for Macintosh) products are available.
Beginning last June, the agreement includes 25,000 licenses for
desktop computers on campus for two years and 30,000 licenses for
personally owned computers for one year.
“It’s a very good deal,” said Haggai Hisgilov,
the representative of the UCLA Procurement Organization.
“[The software] will protect against all possible known
viruses…. We encourage and staff to download this
software,” he added.
The software is available through UCLA Software Central at
http://www.ats.ucla.edu/software/antivirus/McAfee.html and can only
be accessed from a UCLA IP address, or from a computer on
campus.
