Celebrate 420 with these trippy films

poorly put together. Chang was high. Just look at those eyes in his

Well, today is Thursday, April 18 … so that makes Saturday
April 20. Hmm … April 20, there must be some sort of significance
to it. Is it my girlfriend’s birthday? Tax Day? My
mailman’s Bar Mitzvah? Ah yes, 420. The official marijuana
holiday. The next best holiday after Flag Day.

Well what’s the best thing to do then, Panama Red? For
those who aren’t planning on doing something extravagant, and
like many, like to just sit back, relax and watch a few movies
after lighting some greens, there are a few movies that are better
than others to watch.

1) Most kids’ movies. It just seems for some weird reason
when people are high, it brings out the kid in them.
Everyone’s more lax, and the kids’ flicks make everyone
nostalgic, yet full of awe and wonderment. Disney cartoons are a
good way to go, as are “The Wizard of Oz,” and
“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” No one can get
enough of that Gene Wilder. Just make sure that the movie
isn’t too trippy ““ it’s a holiday, and no one
likes a bad trip. (Get it, holiday, bad trip, holiday, bad trip?
Haha).

2) Science fiction films. There’s no better way to give an
open mind a nice platform to go into another world. Remember
“The Neverending Story?” That would be perfect ““
giant white flying dog-like beings are a perfect complement to any
Orange Crush fantasy. Of course there’s always movies like
“2001: A Space Odyssey,” where, when it was released,
scores of stoners would raid the theaters to watch the light shows
and trip through space. Definitely a classic. Don’t forget
films like the “Star Wars” series or “The
Terminator.” Even movies like “ET” or
“Jurassic Park” work out pretty well.

3) Comedies, comedies, comedies. Everyone enjoys a good laugh,
especially when under the influence of something or another. The
timeless classic, conducive to the effects of Mary Jane and
relevant to the subject matter, would have to be
“Half-Baked.” Nothing can top off Jim Breuer’s
and Dave Chapelle’s crazy capers and ridiculous situations.
Otherwise, just watch whatever comedy you happen to like ““
it’s mainly a personal preference. Some don’t enjoy the
diarrhea scenes of “Dumb and Dumber” but enjoy wittier
comedies like “Rushmore” ““ it’s totally up
to the viewer’s discretion.

That about wraps it up, folks. Prepare your munchies, a lot of
water, and get those movies out. 420 is sure to be an interesting
one this year. Come 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, there’s going to
be a gigantic inhale and exhale, producing a devastating marijuana
cloud, encompassing the greater United States. Enjoy!
