In an event that was heavily promoted by radio station Hot 92 FM
as a couples’ romantic concert, Musiq and Truth Hurts offered
something for both the singles and pairs Friday at the Wiltern.
Truth Hurts opened the concert performing her flirtatious song
“Addictive,” her hips swinging to the drum beats and a
recorded Hindu singer’s voice. Her melodic voice was soulful,
strong and hard and she strolled down the stage.
Truth Hurts invited all of the single ladies to sing along to
“I’m Not Really Lookin’,” telling the men
to step back because the women just came to have a good time
““ they were not looking for anything serious.
Then the lights dimmed and a couch was brought out as part of
Musiq’s performance. A couple cuddled on a black leather
couch on stage as the Philadelphia native, Musiq, sang in his
sweet, low voice “Don’t Change.” The lucky couple
were the winners of an Hot 92 contest.
Musiq also sang his R&B song “Half Crazy” which
is currently third on 92’s Top 20 list. He moved across the
stage with slick, seductive steps to the solid drum beats and
rhythmic guitar.
To end the romantic part of his concert, Musiq sang “Girl
Next Door” with Ayana, a part of the soulful duo Aaries. They
sang to each other like young lovers.
Funky ’70s music mixed with jazz and hard rock finished
off the night. Musiq jumped all over the stage and got the audience
jumping as he sang “Caught Up.”
Although Musiq performed most of the songs from his latest CD,
the concert ended after about an hour, leaving the audience
unsatisfied and craving more.
Still, with special guests the soulful duo Aaries and Truth
Hurts, Musiq’s concert, with his romantic, playful and funky
sounds, catered to all audiences.
