The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government representing the undergraduate student body at UCLA. Council meetings take place every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students. Agenda:
- Lisa Koerbling, director of parking services for UCLA Transportation, gave a presentation on a proposal to increase parking fees for the 2018-19 school year in response to campus needs for more parking and sustainable commute programs.
- The council approved a resolution to allocate $4,547 from the contingency fund to student organizations.
- The council approved the allocation of $232,500 from the Board of Directors Programming Fund to student groups.
New Business:
- The Election Board presented a revised version of the proposed amendments to the Election Code, after previously proposed changes were deemed in violation of students’ freedom of association. The council made additional recommendations to the proposal and tabled the vote on changes until after the board reviews them and examines whether they are complicit with university policy.
- The council approved a resolution, presented by the Academic Affairs Commission office, to dismantle standardized testing from the UCLA admissions process.
- The council approved a resolution to allocate the remainder of the surplus funds to the council’s endowment.
- The council approved to change the meeting time for March 13 to 7:30 p.m.
Officer Reports:
- External Vice President Chloe Pan said that her office is organizing a protest against the proposed tuition hike during the UC Regents meeting on March 14. She added her office will also host a tuition teach-in and poster-making session on March 9.
- Facilities Commissioner Zahra Hajee said her office and several student organizations are hosting the Know Thy Safety Week of Action this week, which will include bystander intervention training workshops.
- Campus Events Commissioner Nedda Saidian said her office is organizing a screening of the Wes Anderson film “Isle of Dogs” on March 19 at the James Bridges Theater.
- A proxy for the Student Wellness Commissioner said their office will be hosting the Winter Oral Health Fair, which will provide free dental health screenings for students, on March 8.
- Community Service Commissioner Adriana Hardwicke said her office will be presenting recipients for the Michaels Leadership in Service Award, which recognizes students who have shown leadership through service work, on April 15.
