Petty theft Two wallets, two backpacks, one
cellular phone and one calculator were stolen during this period,
totaling losses of about $310. A wallet and scarf were stolen from
a backpack on Bruin Walk Saturday. That same day, someone stole a
purse at Sigma Alpha Epsilon on Landfair Avenue. Someone threw a
shoe across from a house on Strathmore Avenue Saturday. This
resulted in a window being broken. On Friday, someone attempted to
steal a parking permit from a vehicle in Lot 1. Someone slashed the
convertible top of a car parked in Lot 6 and stole a parking permit
Wednesday. Someone stole a $250 bicycle from Powell Library
Tuesday.
Grand theft Someone stole a cabinet and a
television from the Dykstra Hall lobby Friday, resulting in losses
of about $2,500. A $3,650 laptop was stolen April 2 at the UCLA
School of Law. Three laptops were stolen that same day ““ one
from the Engineering 1 building, one from Schoenberg Hall and
another from a home on Landfair Avenue. Also on April 2, a $400
bicycle was stolen from the School of Law. On Tuesday, someone used
a victim’s information to open a credit card account and
purchased $2,000 worth of goods. Someone stole a credit card and
cash from a wallet and made purchases on the credit card afterward,
totaling losses of $1,643.
Miscellaneous Two people were caught smashing
bottles on Gayley Avenue Saturday. Three hit-and-run accidents
occurred Friday ““ in Lots 1, 6 and 32. Someone assaulted a
person with a chair at Habibi Cafe in Westwood Thursday. A
hit-and-run occurred in front of Circuit City on Gayley Avenue
Tuesday. When the victim attempted to exchange information, the
person refused. Both parties parked their cars and then entered
Circuit City. Someone hit a vehicle on Glenrock Avenue Tuesday.
