Congratulations, Class of 2010!
Commencement offers an opportunity to reflect upon all you have accomplished at UCLA, to celebrate a wonderful milestone and to look forward to a future filled with unlimited possibility.
As that future begins, you can be confident that you are ready to succeed in a society that is becoming ever more interconnected.
Twenty-first century leaders in nearly every field will be required to understand and value people from diverse backgrounds and those with different world views. During your time at UCLA, you have lived and worked among an incredibly diverse group of students from across California and the world ““ an experience that both enriched your studies here and prepared you to be leaders in a global marketplace.
Through scholarship or volunteer efforts, you also have found meaningful ways to enrich the community around you.
I am continually amazed by the depth of Bruins’ passion for improving others’ lives and by the creativity and spirit with which you have engaged with those around you.
I urge you to continue applying your considerable talent and energy in this way after you leave UCLA.
While you contributed much to the community, you also have left an indelible mark on our campus.
Your considerable academic triumphs have been complemented by achievement in leadership, the arts and athletics; as a result, UCLA is a richer and more dynamic environment now than when you arrived.
Although you may be leaving our campus, you will remain a vital part of UCLA, and you are always welcome back.
Treasure your connections with your fellow alumni. Support the students who will follow in your footsteps and help us ensure that they have the same remarkable opportunities you have enjoyed.
In doing so, you will keep our great UCLA legacy thriving.
Most of all, congratulations again on your magnificent success at UCLA and very best wishes.
Block has been chancellor of UCLA since August 2007.
