UCLA women’s water polo trounces Marist in NCAA consolation round

SAN DIEGO “”mdash; UCLA got back to its winning ways Saturday, defeating Marist 14-3 in the consolation round of the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship.

Sophomore utility KK Clark opened the scoring 18 seconds into the match, and the No. 3 seed Bruins never looked back against the No. 7 seed Red Foxes. It was the first of Clark’s four goals on the day.

Junior centers Grace Reynolds and Katie Estrada each chipped in two goals, while sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Dement grabbed nine saves and posted a shutout before sitting out the entire fourth quarter.

Marist was in the unique situation of having to play the two teams tied for the No. 1 ranking in the last Collegiate Water Polo Association poll on consecutive days. The Red Foxes lost 20-5 Friday against USC.

UCLA will play No. 5 seed Michigan in the fifth-place match Sunday.
