While her team was in Eagle Rock to compete in the Oxy Invitational track meet, sophomore Ryann Krais kicked off the UCLA women’s track and field postseason run at the Pac-10 multi-event championships in Berkeley on Saturday.
As the lone Bruin in the competition, Krais delivered and finished second overall in the heptathlon.
After the first day of competition, where she earned 3,160 points in four events, Krais was in third place. Her performance Saturday was highlighted by a blistering time of 14:06 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, a time that did not top her season best of 13:86 seconds, but which still helped her tremendously in the weekend standings.
Sunday was moving day for the sophomore. She took control of second place overall after a win in the 800 meters and never looked back.
Krais went on to amass a total of 5,426 points, finishing only 491 points behind first place.
The small contingent of Bruins that was sent to compete in the Oxy Invitational on Saturday was highlighted by freshman Turquoise Thompson’s 400-meter hurdles win.
The freshman’s time of 57.11 seconds in the event is the seventh fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Sophomore Yasmin Woodruff also had a solid performance and ran the fastest collegiate time in the 100 meters (11.88) as the race had non-collegiate athletes competing in it. She went on to finish sixth in the 200 meters (24.45).
This event provided some Bruins with an opportunity to rest and get some last minute work in as they look ahead to the Pac-10 championships next weekend.
