Students rallying in support of diversity within the UC system and against the recent string of hate crimes among the universities gathered in Meyerhoff Park at noon today.
After hearing several speakers, approximately 100 students formed two lines on either side of Bruin Walk, directing the flow of student traffic through the tunnel. Protesters shouted, chanted and aggressively fliered to passersby and handed out petitions in support of the creation of a diversity requirement at UCLA.
The organizers of the protest are from a variety of organizations including the Afrikan Student Union, MEChA, the Muslim Student Association and Samahang Pilipino, as well as other groups serving underrepresented students.
According university police, the protest is allowed as long as students do completely block traffic.
