Pedestrians will soon be able to walk on newly paved sidewalks on Westwood Boulevard.
Sidewalks in need of repair on the west side of Westwood Boulevard, between Le Conte and Weyburn avenues, will undergo reconstruction from May 8 to May 26. Construction will begin at Le Conte and progress south toward Weyburn.
The City of Los Angeles will fund the repairs as a part of Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Great Streets Initiative, which aims to increase economic activity in certain LA neighborhoods by making streets more usable and accessible, according to the initiative’s website.
Andrew Thomas, executive director of the Westwood Village Improvement Association, said construction crews will keep half the sidewalk open to accommodate pedestrians and maintain access to businesses.
In 2014, Garcetti named Westwood Boulevard as one of the 15 streets he planned to renovate as part of the Great Streets Initiative. As part of the initiative, the city constructed in February a new crosswalk that allows pedestrians to cross from near Victoria’s Secret to Tanino Ristorante Bar on Westwood Boulevard.
