The undergraduate student government election board posted several sanctions Wednesday night, extending a previous sanction and sanctioning candidates for social media violations.
After failing to comply with a previous sanction, Bruins United candidates were prohibited from campaigning until noon on Thursday. The previous sanction prevented candidates from campaigning from 7 a.m. on Wednesday to 7 a.m. on Thursday.
The election board sanctioned the Bruins United slate on Tuesday for failing to disclose its sponsorship with BarPay, a food and beverage mobile application, in its campaign expense report. The slate also failed to disclose that its candidates’ names were listed on food and drink items at Rocco’s Tavern.
The board extended the 24-hour ban because the slate has continued to campaign and collect donations through the BarPay application.
In addition, two Bruins United candidates were sanctioned for campaign violations that occurred before the 24-hour ban.
Academic Affairs commissioner candidate Emma Zawacki was sanctioned for failing to include a mandated disclaimer while campaigning on Tinder, a dating app. General representative candidate Kayla He also failed to put the mandated disclaimer while campaigning on Facebook. The election board ordered both candidates to add the disclaimer to their online campaign messages.
Kayla He received another sanction for campaigning on social media during the 24-hour ban. The board barred her from social media campaigning from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday.
