Preview for the upcoming UC Board of Regents meeting

The UC Board of Regents are scheduled to meet at UCLA on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday to discuss agenda items ranging from the possible increase of student fees to approval of a budget to repair Rieber Hall.

UC Infrastructure

On Tuesday, the regents plan to discuss budgets for various buildings around the UC campuses, including repairs and refurbishments to Rieber Hall.

Compensation

On Tuesday, the board plans to meet in closed-session to discuss and approve compensation and salary packages for various administrative faculty.

On Wednesday, the regents are scheduled to meet in closed session to discuss the appointment of the Regents’ chief of staff and secretary. Afterwards, they plan to meet in open session to possibly approve the UC’s 2006-2007 External Audit plan.

On Thursday, the regents’ compensation committee plans to consider corrective actions recommended from audit findings and management review. They also plan to speak on salary packages for the regents’ secretary and chief of staff position, as well as individual compensation items.

For discussion, the regents plan to view a 2006 report on outside professional activities of senior executives and the compensation of which they receive for that, a 2006 legislative report on administrative salaries, and a presentation on the basics of faculty salaries.

Fees

On Wednesday, the educational policy committee plans to discuss principles for student mental health fees and multi-year planning in regards to fees at professional schools. The financial committee will speak and act upon potential student fee increases.

Laboratories

On Thursday, the regents’ lab oversight committee plans to speak on issues such as contract competition and other matters at national laboratories managed by the UC.

Stem Cell Research

On Thursday, the regents will hear a presentation on stem cell research, which includes awards and grants given to UC campuses by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

Health Care

On Wednesday, the regents plan to hear a presentation of UC telemedicine groups aimed at improving health care in rural parts of California.

AOL/Time Warner Lawsuit

On Wednesday and Thursday, the regents plan to vote on whether to approve a $246 million settlement of the UC’s lawsuit against the Time-Warner Corporation.
