Swimmer sets school record at US Short Course National Championships

UCLA junior swimmer Brittany Beauchan continued her hot streak this weekend, setting a school record in the 200-meter breaststroke Saturday at the U.S. Short Course National Championships in Federal Way, Wash.

In addition to her new record of 2:10.43 in the 200, Beauchan tied the school record in the 100-meter breast with a 1:00.45 finish.

Sophomore Bianca Casciari established a career-best time of 1:55.97 in the 200-meter butterfly.

Also, six other Bruins set season bests. In the 200 breast, junior Lauren Hall and freshman Lindsey Marchand finished with times of 2:14.27 and 2:15.77, respectively.

Sophomore Yasi Jahanshahi had her fastest this season in the 200 fly with a 1:58.93 finish. Senior Kirsten Byers, along with Hall, also set season bests in the 200 fly with times of 2:05.92 and 2:01.84, respectively.

Senior Isabell Fischer was part of two season bests this weekend. Fischer swam a 1:57.84 200-meter backstroke while she was a part of the 400-meter freestyle relay team, along with Marchand, Hall and freshman Emily Andelson, which swam a season best of 3:23.60.

Andelson had her fastest 100-meter free of the year, finishing at 51.22.

The Bruins will have their fourth dual meet of the season after winter break, hosting Fresno State on Jan. 8.

The UCLA divers, at this weekend’s Texas Invitational, were led by junior Laura Winn, who was third place on the tower Saturday.

Junior Karina Silva led UCLA Friday, placing third on the one-meter as well as Thursday, placing third on the three-meter.
