USAC Recap: Oct. 13

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417.

AGENDA

“¢bull; Financial Committee Chair Brian Tan’s contingency allocations were approved with a vote of 11-0-0.
“¢bull; The Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act Resolution was unanimously approved with a vote of 11-0-0.
“¢bull; The Academic Affairs Commission allocated the Queer Alliance $1330 to help fund National Coming Out Week speakers and supplies.

OFFICER REPORTS

“¢bull; President Cinthia Flores finalized a date with the On Campus Housing Committee for a meeting on the hill to inform students about USAC. The date is set for Nov. 6th at 7 p.m. in the Covel Grand Horizon Room. In a meeting with Chancellor Block she said he made a budgetary commitment to maintaining Night Powell, the details of which will be ready by Friday.
“¢bull; External Vice President Susan Li said a colloquium featuring a panel of student, faculty and Executive Vice Chancellor Scott Waugh, Defending the Public University will be held on Thursday, Oct 15, from 2-4 p.m. in the Kerckhoff Grand Salon to discuss budgetary issues affecting the UC system, and specifically UCLA. She added that she and Flores are working on drafting a plan for a following town hall meeting to discuss the budget that will be presented to Block for his approval.
“¢bull; Academic Affairs Commissioner Layhannara Tep said students interested in taking free practice tests for medical, law and graduate school are invited to Haines Hall on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 12 p.m. To register, students can go to kaptest.com/practice.

APPOINTMENTS

“¢bull; Finance committee appointee Kia Saedi was approved unanimously.
“¢bull; The council approved Jiwei Sun for the Faculty Welfare Committee and Matthew Van for the Undergraduate Council within the Academic Senate with a unanimous vote.

OTHER

“¢bull; Flores said a petition for the restoration of Night Powell, which she will present to the chancellor, will be circulating this week.
