John Isner def. Benjamin Becker (7) 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-3)
In a match where both sets went to tiebreaks, the American Isner defeated the No. 7 seed German Becker, which made for the first seeded player to exit the tournament. Isner will face the winner of the Dancevic-Baghdatis match currently in progress.
Ryan Sweeting def. Taylor Dent 6-4, 2-6, 6-3
In a matchup of two Americans, wildcard entrant Dent falls at the hands of the qualifier Sweeting. In a grueling match that went to a third set, Dent ended his tournament hopes with a double fault. Sweeting will face the winner of the nightcap matchup between Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan and Sam Querrey of the U.S.

Ernests Gulbis def. Yen-Hsun Lu 7-5, 6-2
Gulbis of Latvia takes out Taiwan’s Lu. The 20-year-old Gulbis will face the winner of tonight’s match between American Robby Ginepri and Russia’s Marat Safin, the tournament’s No. 8 seed.
Carsten Ball def. Marc Gicquel 6-2, 7-6 (8-6)
Australia’s Ball, who just qualified Monday, keeps his tournament hopes alive with a victory over France’s Gicquel. Ball struggled in the late stages on the second set despite cruising to an easy first set win. He will face No. 3 seed Dmitry Tursunov of Russia in the second round.
Igor Kunitsyn (5) v. Somdev Devvarman
Devvarman of India just came in the first-round draw as a qualifier and is currently facing off against No. 5 seed Kunitsyn of Russia. Devvarman took the first set 7-5.
