Pitcher starts in summer league all-star game

Bruin left-handed pitcher Rob Rasmussen was selected to start in Thursday’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game.

In his three summer-league starts for the Orleans Firebirds, Rasmussen has gone 2-0 with a 0.96 ERA.

The rising junior recorded a 4-2 record in 18 appearances for the Bruins this past season. Though he started the season opener for the Bruins, Rasmussen spent most of the 2009 season coming out of the bullpen.

Thursday’s all-star game will take place in Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox, and will be televised live on New England Sports Network at 4 p.m.

Bruin golfer wins Southern Amateur Championship

Gregor Main, a rising sophomore for the Bruins, came out on top at this past week’s 103rd Southern Amateur Championship.

Main, the 2008-2009 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, finished at least two strokes under par in each of the tournament’s four rounds. With a final score of 272, he beat out the field by two strokes.

Main stated in a press release that his win this past week is the biggest moment of his career. He previously cited making the cut at the PGA Tour Buick Open in February as his biggest moment.

“But this is definitely bigger,” Main said in the press release. “Getting a “˜W’ in a big tournament like this is much bigger.”
