The No. 5 UCLA women’s golf team fell to No. 23 Duke and No. 4 Stanford at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
On the first day of the three-day East Lake Cup, the Bruins earned second place after shooting a 1-under 287 as a team. This allowed them to take on the third-seeded Duke who claimed the 3-2 victory.
In an individual match, senior Bronte Law took on Duke’s Sandy Choi, defeating her after winning the third, seventh, 12th, 14th and 16th holes. Meanwhile, freshman Clare Legaspi clinched her own win after defeating Duke’s Lisa Maguire.
The remaining individual matches against Stanford resulted in losses for Bruin sophomores Lilia Vu, Bethany Wu and freshman Mariel Galdiano, resulting in the 3-2 loss.
Law and Legaspi also had consecutive victories on the final day of the tournament in a consolation final against Stanford.
Legaspi started the match off strong, never lagging behind Stanford’s Albane Valenzuela and winning four holes in the competition. Law followed the same procedure, never trailing behind Stanford’s Sierra Kersten. Meanwhile, the remaining golfers would fall in their own matches once again.
This tournament ends the team’s fall schedule, and will pick back up in the winter at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in February.
