A UCLA health policy professor will receive a national award for her contributions in public health.

Linda Rosenstock, former dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, will receive the 2016 Stephen Smith Award from The New York Academy of Medicine. She will receive the award for her work in occupational and environmental health at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, according to the New York Academy of Medicine.

Rosenstock will accept the award at the Academy’s 169th Anniversary Discourse and Awards ceremony in November.

Rosenstock helped create the National Occupational Research Agenda, a program that aims to research and improve the workplace for employees, according to a UCLA press release. She served as dean of the Fielding School from November 2000 to July 2012, and holds professor appointments in medicine, health policy and management and environmental health sciences.

Prior to teaching at UCLA, Rosenstock served as the director of the NIOSH, which conducts research on occupational safety and injuries. Rosenstock doubled the institute’s annual appropriations and expanded its staff size and budget.

In 2000, Rosenstock received the Presidential Distinguished Executive Rank Award for her contributions to the institute. The award is considered the government’s highest civil service award, according to the award’s website.
