UCLA students performed a cultural dance at the annual Navratri Raas-Garba event Sunday. The Indian Student Union at UCLA hosted the event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ackerman Grand Ballroom. Raas and Garba are Indian folk dances performed during the nine-day Hindu festival, Navratri. Raas is danced in pairs, while holding sticks called dandiyas. Garba is an individual dance consisting of rhythmic steps in a circular pattern. ISU is a student organization which aims to represent the South Asian community on campus by organizing cultural activities and bringing awareness to South Asian issues.
