Westwood Village officials warned businesses Wednesday about a man who pretended to inspect a fire extinguisher in a business and then asked for money.
Andrew Thomas, executive director of the Westwood Village Improvement Association, said the man walked into a business and asked to inspect the fire extinguisher. After he finished his inspection, he gave a generic invoice asking for $200.
Thomas said the business’ owners filed a police report afterward. He added he could not specify which business the man approached.
There have been other scammers in the area over the past months, Thomas said. He said about six to eight months ago, some customers paid businesses with counterfeit money.
Thomas said the association sends emails to businesses and stakeholders to warn them whenever it hears reports of scammers.
