Westwood Community Council recap – May 17

The Westwood Community Council meets several times a year to discuss issues relevant to the Westwood Village business and residential community.

Discussion

  • Jasmine Shamolian, field deputy for LA City Council member Paul Koretz, said Westwood Gardens Park’s renovation is near completion and the park will reopen soon. The renovation added exercise equipment, a playground, picnic tables and other enhancements.
  • Sandy Brown, president of the Holmby-Westwood Property Owners Association, said the amendments to Mobility Plan 2035, which moved a proposed bike lane from Westwood Boulevard to Gayley Avenue, was a victory for residents and the Westwood Community Council because she thinks Gayley Avenue is better suited for a bike lane.
  • Jackie Freedman, a representative of the Holmby-Westwood Property Owners Association, said the Terasaki Research Institute deviated from the plan it submitted to the Westwood Community Design Review Board by not including retail space on the ground floor.

Motions

  • The council approved a motion to endorse UCLA renaming its own street on campus now known as Tiverton Drive in honor of David Geffen, instead of UCLA’s proposal to the city to name the Le Conte and Tiverton avenues intersection “David Geffen Square.”
