Tonight is to be one of the greatest campus hooplas of the year.
As it always seems to be, Halloween will likely end up being filled with binge drinking, obnoxious outfits, broken heels, misdemeanor charges and many fond memories ““ or perhaps the lack thereof in some cases.
While taking advantage of the opportunity to blow off steam on a Wednesday night, don’t forget to take precautions to ensure that everyone makes it home safely without having inflicted damage upon the person or property of another or upon one’s own physical person, reputation or criminal record.
Remember that not everyone who appears to be dressed in a police uniform is wearing a costume. University police are expected to be out in force to keep students safe and enforce laws on public behavior and on the possession and consumption of alcohol, among other controlled substances.
Students should utilize campus resources for safe travel after dark, especially when inebriated. The UCLA free evening van service, running until 11 p.m., makes stops at the corners of Strathmore and Glenrock and on Kelton Avenue, among other locations. Community Service Officers will also be providing a walking escort service until 1 a.m., which can be reached by calling 310-794-WALK.
So go out, Bruins. Don your cat-eared hair bands (and little else), your unnecessarily tight neon spandex and your faux Wayfarers and roam the streets of Westwood, so long as the outing doesn’t end in the emergency room or the back of a police cruiser.
