Bruins gathered on Thursday for the annual Beat ‘SC Parade, Bonfire and Rally, part of Blue and Gold Week.
To the delight of many, weather conditions permitted the lighting of a real bonfire, unlike last year when a warning from the fire marshal prevented the fire from being lit.
The 2007 UCLA women’s water polo team, who won the university’s 100th NCAA team title last year, were the grand marshals for the parade which included performances and floats from an estimated 40 campus organizations and offices.
For the first time, five rooter sections were set up along the parade route for students to cheer on those participating in the parade, which began on Bellagio Road and ended in Wilson Plaza between Kaufman Hall and the Student Activities Center.
Thirty-two entrants competed for various trophies which were awarded based on the quality of the showcases.
