The women’s water polo team has gotten what Stella only
hoped to get back: her groove.
Fresh off their impressive weekend in La Jolla, California, the
Bruins made it nine straight after their disappointing loss to
then-No. 1 Stanford on Feb. 28.
Their nine victories have been against quality competitors, and
the Bruins outscored these opponents 88-26.
“Our early losses, especially to USC, woke us up … it
got us refocused and dedicated on improving our game to the level
it should be,” head coach Adam Krikorian said.
This Saturday the Bruins made a trip down to La Jolla and played
UC San Diego and Princeton. The tipoff time of 10 a.m. must have
been too early for No. 10 UCSD as the Bruins went off to a 7-0 run
by halftime. Kristyn Pulver led the Bruins with three goals and
goalie Tahlia Kerr was able to get some playing time as she
finished with five saves. The Tritons should have never even suited
up for the match as the game was over before it even started
““ the final score 11-1.
Three hours later, the alarm clock went off for No. 17
Princeton. Like an exact replica of the UCSD game, the Bruins
jumped out to a 7-0 spurt thanks to the offensive awareness of
Natalie Golda, who would finish with three goals. The Tigers
didn’t do much better than UCSD, as they too only managed to
score one goal the entire game against the Bruins pressing defense,
as the Bruins tamed the Lions, 10-1.
“Our team is pretty dangerous inside and that’s why
our opponents have to play crash defense and because of that, our
offensive players get open,” said Golda, who leads the team
with 23 goals.
