Remember the cause, not the man
In regard to Matias Ramos’ column “César Chávez Day oversimplifies Latino struggles” (April 1), I couldn’t have said it better myself. Great article, great points, and on target with the Latino reality of this country. We don’t need another hero, we need action and processes that will enable us to overcome the Latino dropout rates, teen pregnancies and every other vice affecting our communities.
A César Chávez commemoration would be a battle of the beer companies to brand yet another Latino holiday; I guess it would be Tecate’s turn since Corona already owns Cinco de Mayo.
Does anyone know or care about Chávez in Alaska or the Eastern Seaboard? I think not.
Viva Chávez for sure, but, more importantly, viva our cause to rise from being just an ordinary, mediocre and lethargic ethnic majority.
