“˜Car trouble’

Sophomore guard Jamila Veasley was recently involved in a car
accident. Fortunately, she is in good health, but as a result, she
sat out practice last week because of stiffness.

Head coach Kathy Olivier lightheartedly compared Veasley’s
walk to that of an “old woman’s.” Although she
was suited to play, Veasley did not see any action in UCLA’s
victory against Cal. She did play three minutes in the loss to
Stanford on Sunday. Veasley has averaged 1.6 points and 3.8
rebounds this season.

Greco? Greco who?

Although she cannot be seen on the court, redshirt senior guard
Michelle Greco has gone to the bench this season. The former Pac-10
Player-of-the-Year has taken on a new role.

“I’ve turned from team player to head manager almost
over night,” she said, laughing. “But I don’t
mind because I might as well do something while I’m on the
bench ““ whether it be helping my team with words of wisdom,
or giving them towels.”

After playing only five games this season, the Bruin guard was
sidelined because of medical reasons. Greco will file a medical
hardship petition to the Pac-10 after the closing of the season.
Hopefully ““ and most likely ““ for the Bruins, the
request will be granted and Greco will return next season.

Senior night

In their last home game of the season against Stanford,
seniors Shalada Allen, Malika Leatham, and Stacy Robertson were
commemorated for their time spent at UCLA. All three Texans
graciously accepted flowers as they waved goodbye to the fans. In
Pac-10 play, Allen led her team with 6.5 rebounds per game. She
also averaged 9 points. Leatham helped this season’s effort
with her 5.8 rebounds and 6.3 points. Robertson underwent surgery
in November for a torn ACL in her right knee and therefore did not
see action the entire year.

Cardinal roadblock

UCLA has dropped 25 of its last 28 contests to Stanford. If the
Bruins advance to the second round of the Pac-10 Tournament, they
will play Stanford again, the current No. 2 team in the nation.
This season the Bruins have lost to the Cardinal by an average of
25 points.
