UCLA appoints new president of Health System

UCLA selected a new health care leader for the UCLA Health System, officials announced Friday.

Johnese Spisso will become the president of UCLA Health, CEO of UCLA Hospital System and associate vice chancellor of UCLA Health Sciences on Feb. 8.

Spisso has more than 30 years of health care leadership experience. Currently, she is the chief health system officer for the University of Washington School of Medicine, where she manages operations, growth and development of the clinical components of the school. She is also the vice president of medical affairs for the University of Washington. Previously Spisso worked at the UC Davis Medical Center and was a critical care nurse in the medical, surgical and transplant intensive care unit at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian.

The UCLA Hospital System includes three hospitals and more than 150 primary and specialty offices in Southern California, including the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA.

James Atkinson has served as the interim associate vice chancellor since March, when David Feinberg stepped down from the position.
