Lucky victory No. 7
With their recent victory over Long Beach State, the Bruins have
surpassed last year’s win total of six. The Bruins have
posted a 7-16 overall record and 3-11 record in the Pac-10 so far.
Last year, five of the Bruins’ six total victories were in
conference play. Their remaining four games of the season are
against conference opponents.
Bruins can’t steal win in conference
For the second consecutive year, the Bruins lead the Pac-10 in
steals.
Besides 10.52 steals per game, the Bruins are also second in the
conference in turnover margin, averaging 3.57 fewer turnovers than
opponents per game.
Yet their problem lies in shooting where the Bruins make only
.344 percent of their shots and their opponents make .419
percent.
Best in the Pac
At 24-1 and 14-0 in the Pac-10, Stanford is now the unanimously
No. 2 ranked team in the nation. Last ranked No. 1 in 1996, the
Cardinal took a share of their 11th Pac-10 title this past weekend
with their victory over Oregon State.
“They’re the team to beat,” UCLA head coach
Kathy Olivier said.
UCLA hosts Stanford for their last home game of the season.
“We’ve always talked about how they are
beatable,” Bruin forward Jamila Veasley said. “It is
good that we have them as our last game of our season because if we
win, then we could go into the Pac-10 with a big
momentum.”
Lexus Gauntlet update
With the first sweep of the Bruins since 1996-97, USC has
rightfully claimed 10 points in the Lexus Gauntlet competition.
