Welcome to “No Offense, But,” the Daily Bruin’s official Opinion podcast.

In recent weeks there have been numerous violent incidents between Israelis and Palestinians as part of a new wave of protests calling for Palestinian independence from Israel. Israel continues to assert its authority over the West Bank territory, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that he does not envision a Palestinian state in the near future.

The two sides are currently caught in a stalemate. Palestine promises no peace until they have independence, and Israel will not offer independence until there is peace.

This week, Opinion columnists Aram Ghoogasian and Shani Shahmoon debate recent developments in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

  1. Israel desires coexistence with Arabs
Arabs desire end of Israel existance
Recognize the Israeli Jewish state and declare end of conflict.””
2 simple sentences the Arabs refuse in 1947 and refused today.
    *****
The main change is that in 2015 the Arabs under Abass leadership require international recognition of the Palestinian state and on the same time to get legitimacy to endless conflict and terror continuation.
    ******
Between 1948 to 1967 the West bank was occupied by Jordan and Gaza was occupied by Egypt.
They didn’t form a Palestinian state.
The Palestinians didn’t demand the Palestinian state.
They committed terror attacks against Israeli population by the Fedaiun terrorists and from 1965 by the PLO and Hamas terrorists.
    ——-
As long as the Palestinian leaders being from PLO or Hamas share the same goal-Israel destruction- there is no chance of peace.
    Only different types of violence

:***** ” we are in line with Hamas opposing Israel’s right to exist””
“”Our public statements recognizing Israel’s right to exist to the West are designed “to trick the Americans””

  2. I can’t listen to a podcast that is introduced in such a biased fashion. Sorry. The reality is that Abbas is actively telling Palestinians to kill Jews, and they are doing so. But how do you introduce your podcast? Its all about how Israel’s leader is a horrible person who just won’t give the Palestinians the state they deserve. Talk about biased!

    1. Kind of like when Israeli leaders call for the murder of Palestinian mothers and calling them snakes.
Or the mow the lawn policies and broken bone policies?
Don’t forget sabra and Shatila and Deir Yassin and kafr qassam and khan younis massacres and meir kahane and the assassin of Rabin…
I could go on with the breadth of Israeli ‘incitement’
Israel is a racist terror state built on lies violence and misinformation
You defending racist land thief baby killers that have anti-Palestinianism agendas is
      Disgusting

      1. I don’t reason with crazy people. There’s billions of non-delusional, non-Jew-haters out there. Bye! Have a bad life!

        1. Actually the truth is that Abbas is the only person standing between increased West Bank downward spiralling.
          Get a grip.
Israeli military commanders have to remind Nuttyahoo and his war mongering comrades who is helping hem and the facts remain the Palestinian Authority is being used as a tool if Israeli occupation.
          Real talk
          Free Palestine

          1. Free what? What is “Palestine”? What were its borders in 1948? What did its flag look like at the United Nations? What was its currency? Its language? Who were the members of its Parliament? What did its Constitution look like? What sports did it excel at in the Olympics? How many World Cup victories did “Palestine” have before 1948? What famous people were born there? What inventions and medical innovations came out of “Palestine” before 1948? Oh, and as a bonus: Where was Yasser Arafat born? Was he a “Palestinian”? How about all the other “Palestinian government officials”? What countries were they born in? Palestine?

          2. Look in a 4th graders history book to find out where PALESTINE is…..that’s what the Romans Byzantines mamluks Fatimids Mongols arabs ottomans crusaders BRITISH …..even early Zionists called it by its true name
            Palestine
Your Zionist fake revisionist history that also claims Palestinians did the holocaust
Is a joke that grade schoolers won’t be fooled over with

          3. “Palestine” is a code word for anti-Semites to unite behind to attack Israel and Jews.

            Nothing new here.

          4. Abbas supports the terrorist organization HAMAS.

Funny how all “Palestinian” leaders always support terrorist groups, whether it be Arafat or Abbas.

The Fakestinians do not want peace, they only want war.

        2. Yes everyone is out to get YOU so we should all send our tax money to your communal kibbutzes so they can unconditionally commit their civil and human rights violations against Palestinians
          Because it’s all about you
          Great

          1. No, dummy, they are out to get YOU and your nut job terrorist supporters.

            Careful, your taqiya is showing.

        1. It is time for you to learn about Jewish voice for peace, kairos palestine movement, and BDS.
          The facts remain
This is a human and civil rights issue that any person with a moral compass can feel comfortable supporting.
Unless of course if you are a right wing unconditional Zionist extremist .
You sound like a true anti-Palestinian bigot that doesn’t realize the rich and lengthy culture and history of Palestinian people.
          Free Palestine

  3. Palestine is not the first region or people attempting to shed the yoke of a colonizer. Through out history European powers have been attempting to colonize and take advantage of less developed peoples, and this no different.
The brutality of this Jewish Zionist invasion come with all the historic fixings of past colonization projects. Brutal policies to qualm the indigenous peoples such as “Starvation Plans,” ” Broken Bones,” indefinite incarcerations with out charges, power outages and natural resource shut downs, concentration camp seclusions, mid night raids, kid napping and indiscriminate killing, property destruction, de humanization, torture, lack of medical services, apartheid and racist laws etal….
The Algerians fought the French off, India the British, Irish against Britain, Vietnam the US, France Japan etc….In the case of most these resistance movement it took years and years to become independent from occupation and colonization. But, they eventually succeeded. They were referred to as terrorists and diabolical. Now that they are independent all nations deal with them on the international stage.
Now here the posters and Israeli apologists want to deny the Palestinian Arabs there right to defy and resist what all other people before them have done…End their oppression and the settlement of their lands by a foreign political entity called Zionism.
After all the horrible acts Israel has done to these proud people why should they reward them with peace?
Ben Gurion was wrong when he claimed, ” The young will forget and the old will die.” Not hardly.

          1. you have no idea what is anti Semitic. just like you do know israel is anti humanity and is fascist.

  4. Yes, ‘We’ll finish what Hitler started’ is delightful mantra, uttered for decades and state sponsored media and curriculum are rife with bigotry. Then there are the state employed and paid clerics- ‘God in heaven, Hitler on earth’ as a recurring theme.

The real naqbah is audio and video tape.

  5. Palestinians lost any support from me back in the late 60s when they used terrorism as their means to achieve their goals. They have not changed. They do not deserve a state.
I also find it ironic that this issue is the number one hot button issue on campuses. Why? Because of a well-orchestrated campaign by the pro-Palestinian lobby. Also interesting that so many radical, left-wing professors have jumped on this bandwagon. Well, if Israel is America’s ally, they must be the bad guys, right?
This is not about land. It is about religion. The Jew hating Arabs will never accept a Jewish state in the Middle East. Even if there is a two state treaty, it will be temporary because the ultimate goal is to drive every last Jew out of the region.

    1. I’m pretty certain the ZIONIST invaders including the jewish extremist groups were the first to commit terrorism in the holy land.
King David hotel bombing ring a bell?
      You should.
That is when menachem begin, yes the future prime minister of Israel, was labeled as most wanted criminal in the world.
Did the israeli ZIONIST extremist jewish people lose your confidence back then?
Or are you exposing your hatred for arabs and Muslims ?

      1. Points well taken, but I can way back before the King David Hotel and Begin. How about the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Hajj Amin Al Husseini, a collaborator of Hitler. He found refuge in Berlin during WW II and helped organize a Bosnian SS division while making radio broadcasts back to the Middle East urging his followers to drive the Jews out. And that was before the creation of Israel.

But if you want to go back to the source, how about the 7th century? Read the Koran my friend and count all the references to Jews (and Christians).

        1. Garyfouse you are very uninformed and misguided but I don’t have time to educate you. What’s your source? Netanyahu’s butt? None of your claims are true. According to all historians and German government, Hitler was solely responsible for the Jews genocide. BTW II have read Koran so let me educate you: both Jews and Christians are referred to as the people of [holy] book and they are several verses praising Moses, Jesus, virgin Mary, and their followers. Your prejudice and hate won’t cover the truth.

          1. Well you sound like a nice young man, Michael.

First point: I am not trying to relieve Hitler of any responsibility for the Holocaust. I am an amateur scholar on the Holocaust and the Third Reich, have lived in Germany and have visited Auschwitz. Yet you need to do your research on the Mufti. He was a vicious anti-Semite who was an ally of the Nazis. I stated above just what he did during WW II. If you want to dispute it, go ahead. Whether he ever advised Hitler to embark upon the Holocaust (as Netanyahu recently claimed) is immaterial.

Secondly, please don’t give me that “people of the book” crap. All that meant was that Christians and Jews were to be given the three choices: Convert, live as dhimmis and pay a tax, or die. This is precisely what ISIS has done with the Christians in Iraq and Syria.

It is true that Islam respects the previous prophets, the Virgin Mary and all that. Yet their followers are hardly respected. Just ask the Christians in the Middle East.

As for the Koran, you need to understand that it was recorded over several years from the time Mohammed began preaching peacefully (Meccan era) to when he became a warrior and began spreading Islam by war (Medina era) . The language in the Koran reflects that. The Koran is not ordered chronologically, rather from longest chapter (sura) to shortest. There are contradictions. Over the course of the centuries, the Islamic scholars came up with the principle of abrogation when one verse contradicts another. It means that which was revealed later abrogates that which was revealed earlier and is in contradiction. I suggest you read sura 9, the last major sura before Mohammad’s death. It is arguably the most hateful and violent sura in the Koran. It abrogates virtually all of the peaceful verses revealed earlier.

This is not a question of hating Muslims, most of whom live peaceful lives. Yet, given the times we live in, it is necessary to point out the hatreds that exist within Islam.

          2. Well, you need to understand the historical context in which Koran came to existence. The essence of Koran is progressive and peaceful and so are majority of Muslims. Now, some rules and parts seem to be odd or unfriendly (some suras that are after establishment of Islamic government), because they are specific for the old time and culture. You will observe similar brutal and odd verses in Torah and bible (e.g. killing infidels, non-church goers, etc.). However, when it comes to Torah and bible, people who pretend to be Islamic scholars by knowing couple of terms and fox news words, ignore the brutal and backwarded parts of bible and Torah, while cherry picking the good parts. The claims in your comment and the comment below are wrong. Based on Koran, the Christians and Jews have the choice to live in peace without dying unlike what you said. Because they are not required to pay two other taxes (zakat and Khoms) that Muslims pay, they should pay only another tax. It is not that they are paying more than others. Your argument is like saying Muslims have two choice either go to jail or pay tax to IRS! There is not a single verse in Koran advising Muslims to kill Christians and Jews. Btw, Christians and Jews live in prosperity in Indonasia, Malasia, Turkey, etc. And those are muslim countries. 99.9 percent of Muslims dont believe ISIS is Islamic, so dont bother place it as an example of Islam. These are what some media create to demonize the muslims. Go figure who will get the benefit by spreading hate aganist Muslims, then you would know why!

          3. Well, “Michael,” or should we say “Mahmoud,” unfortunately for you, this is the era of Wikipedia et al., and anyone who isn’t an illiterate like yourself can easily discover that everything that garyfouse wrote is true… not only true, but completely uncontested. No one doubts the heinous behavior of the Mufti, or the Arabs in general, back in the pre-Independence days… all there for anyone to read. Just look up “Mufti” or the Farhud of Iraq, or any number of countless Arab atrocities. By the way, the Koran mentions several times to kill the Jews, or that they are lesser. But did you know: Mohammed himself is quoted in the Hadith as saying that the land belongs to whoever makes it fruitful… and that’s the Jews, you good-for-nothing!

          4. I am sure you’ve read the Koran, no doubt about that.

BTW, Jesus in the koran is not the same as the Jesus Christ in The Holy Bible. JVIM.com

        2. You forgot to mention the grand mufti does not represent all Palestinians, and he was actually a BRITISH appointee.
I’ll give you that he is a historical figure among Palestinians
But I personally don’t see anything to like about the guy.
The facts are that Palestinians have never needed the institutions to develop the type of military and diplomatic strategies for their success…unlike their European Zionist counterparts
However during the Muftis time you also neglected the Jabitinsky calls for ethnic cleansing and maximalist expansion of Greater Israeli and the battle insignias that represent this in the various paramilitary groups labeled as terror organizations such as Lehi stern Gangs.
The Mufti, as little as he repped the Palestinians, was a weak leader who was obviously responding to the decades old calls for the forceful removal of Palestinian Arabs from the land

          1. Not a very coherent response. The Mufti was a vicious Jew hater and a war criminal. You need to read up on what he was doing while living in Berlin in WW 2.

          2. The “decades old plans” were plans to BUY land and settle Jews on it. What’s the problem? Do you think white people had a right to redline black people out of their neighborhoods? You’re a racist who endorses racism.

          3. The problem is that the new immigrant and armed European Jews only owned 3% of the land in Palestine in 1947…..how the heck did that turn into them owning 6o%, then 75%, and now 100%! Of the land.
            Zionist math strikes again.
Palestinians were 60% of the people(they were 98% of the people in 1902).
Tell me how it is fair that armed foreigners can gobble all that land and expect consequences?
Palestinians shouldnt have had to suffer so much for so long because ZIONISTs can’t do simple arithmetic

          4. Reading your comments, what you’ve written makes you anti-Semetic.

You write lies and misinformation in order to demonize Israel.

          5. Right wing is Abbas siding with HAMAS whose constitution calls for the killing of all Jews.

THAT, and the entire “Palestinian movement,” a veiled attempt at depriving Jews of a homeland after kicking them out of all Arab countries they resided in for thousands of years, is anti-Semetic.

            You’re not fooling anyone.

        3. Uhh how about two massacres in Jerusalem in 1920 and 1921 by Arabs, and the two huuuuge massacres in Hevron and Safed in 1929 killing around 130 Jews by Arabs?

      2. Wrong. Arab attacks began in 1920 with a major escalation in 1929. The first Jewish reprisal was in 1937 by Etzel, the Irgun.

        1. Wrong
Zionists were invading and stealing land forcibly for decades.
          G O O G L E wars israel started

          1. The Jews bought land from Arabs in Israel, at highly inflated prices, often 10 times of market rate.

Looks like you are carrying a small stick, typical of anti-Semites who disguise their hatred in the form of anti-Israel propaganda and lies.

          2. They bought 2%
Then stole and killed the other 98%.
            This is what u support?
            What a joke
            ZIONIST violence and hasbara math
            Free Palestine

  6. Netanyahu’s statement is no surprise. The apartheid and ethnic cleansing policies of Israel were crystal clear from the beginning. In the past, Israeli politicians lied about their real intentions and now, they are admitting they do not want peace and a Palestinian state. The war crimes and illegal settlements uncovered the expansionist and brutal policies of Israeli regime to the world. Now many people realize that what the Palestinians were saying for the last decades was correct and Israel has never wanted peace.

  7. Demonizing the Palestinians is the tool that apartheid Israeli regime uses to deceive our politicians, while continuing with illegal settlements and massacring Palestinians. Until zionist lobbyists have the power to buy and decieve our politicians and the media, billions of tax dollors will be handed to the Israeli war criminals and colonizers.

    1. Amazing how you tools always misuse the word “apartheid.” Do you even know what it means? Obviously not!

Your whole post sounds like a Zionist Conspiracy nut job post, you need mental help.

  8. The Zionists claim that there are no such people as the “Palestinians”. I think that it would be more accurate to say that there are no such people as “Israelis”. They are predominantly Eastern European colonizers who claim to have created a “Jewish” state, but what do they have in common with Judaism? Their ancestors were converts to Judaism, but the Zionist entity is a secular state that allows abortion and the “gay pride” parade – two things that are incompatible with Judaism.

They are paying black Jews who have come from Africa to “go back where they came from”. And they continue to drive out the Palestinians and steal their land, making “leibensraum” for the “Master Race”.

My suggestion is to end the Zionist state and have the nation of Palestine where Jews, Christians and Muslims can live side by side with no “Master Race” or first-class citizens.

    1. Your post is full of lies and blatant anti-Semetic libel.

Israel is mentioned thousands of times in the Bible. Jerusalem and Israel are not mentioned in the Koran ever, not even once. Fakestinians are an invented problem to steal and deprive Jews of their homeland.

Converts to Judaism? You are reading Protocols of Zion, an anti-Semetic book that Hitler subscribed to. Congratulations of joining your Aryan brothers in hatred of Jews.

The only master race in play here is the Iranian – Aryan philosophy of Aryanism. Look it up.

How about we put an end to the Arab states that exclude Israeli visitors based on their Israeli passports alone? That is REAL discrimination, not this made up excuse you dream up and drunkenly post on here. Oh, and how about all those Arab countries give restitution to the 900,000 Jews they kicked out in the early 1900’s and stole all their homes and businesses?
