UCLA is expecting a 20,000 person party this weekend when it
hosts the largest Persian festival in the nation on the intramural
athletic field.
The Iranian American International Festival of Summer will
include traditional and modern Iranian music, performances by the
Avaz Dance Company, Persian food, ancient sports, arts and crafts
and a variety of children’s entertainment.
The musical line-up features Iranian heavyweights like Leila
Forouhar, Shahram, Morteza, Toufan and Aghili. A traditional
Persian tea house is also planned, with Iranian artwork and servers
in traditional costumes.
Though UCLA has one of the largest Persian populations within a
few miles of its perimeter, coordinators hope that people of all
backgrounds come to enjoy the unique offerings of the Persian
culture.
Proceeds will benefit the Tom Bradley International Center at
UCLA and the Iranian Studies program.
Festival: The Iranian American International Festival of Summer
will be on UCLA’s intramural field on Saturday and Sunday, from 11
a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets $10 for adults and $5 for students and
children under 12. For tickets and info. call UCLA’s Central Ticket
