Sophomore Mackenzie McDonald named Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year

Sophomore Mackenzie McDonald was named the Pac-12 conference’s Singles Player of the Year as the conference announced its season-end awards today.

McDonald compiled a 29-5 overall record over his 2015 campaign, and was the nation’s No. 3 singles player heading into the singles NCAA Tournament mid May. In addition, he went undefeated in Pac-12 play as UCLA’s No. 1 singles player and posted a 15-1 record during the dual match season.

He won 20 of his 24 matches against nationally-ranked opponents, including defeating No. 1 Axel Alvarez of Oklahoma in UCLA’s season-ending loss.

In his freshman season, McDonald was named the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year and made the All-Conference Second Team before making the first team in 2015.

Senior Dennis Mkrtchian joined McDonald on the first team, while freshman Martin Redlicki and junior Karue Sell made the second team and received an Honorable Mention respectively.
